Octavio’s Master’s project investigates the evolution and expression of genes involved in the spliceosome in sugarcane and other grasses. Using comparative genomics, protein structure modeling, and RNA-seq data, the project explores the conservation and expansion of spliceosomal genes and their expression during sugarcane leaf development. The study aims to improve our understanding of post-transcriptional regulation and alternative splicing in complex polyploid crop genomes.
